Everything has slowed down now. With some particularly bad weather little work has been carried out on the allotment.
The remaining autumn cabbages have been eaten and some leeks were available for Christmas and the New Year. You may recall that they were planted quite late so they were really quite small, but provided a succulent dish.
The re-planted raspberries are looking a little forlorn even though they have been covered with fleece. We can only wait and see how they develop in the spring.
I think the potential for the coming year is excellent with what appears to be a very good soil.
There is still a small area of the site to clear but as it has been quite heavily waterlogged I have not been able to complete this work.
I am busy now selecting the seeds for the year ahead and there are many to choose from. I suspect that 2006 is going to be a trial year in that respect but it will be fun.
It is unlikely that much work will be done in February but as soon as march arrives, weather permitting, planting will begin in earnest.
In the meantime, preparing wire protection cages and cloches will take up much of the time, and I am also taking a winter break whilst there is a quiet period.
Hopefully we shall soon see a new growing season starting, with lots of excitement.
See you next month.
